Portmeirion

Italianate Style Village built by Clough Williams-Ellis

Portmeirion Village, one of Wales’ premier visitor attractions is less than a mile as the crow flies from Gwrach Ynys. It will take around fifteen minutes to drive around the Dwyryd estuary to arrive at the gates. However, on route it is well worth a small detour to visit a view point this side of the estuary from where you will enjoy panoramic views of the estuary, mount Snowdon in the background a popular spot with artists and photographers.

This famous attraction is the creation of the famous architect Sir Clough Williams Ellis, who used his architecture to enhance the natural setting of the cove.

Set on its own peninsula, the village stretches down to the beach and there are some fine walks around the Gwyllt. The village, scene of the filming of the iconic TV series, The Prisoner, in the 1960s, is now a very popular wedding destination, and many wedding guests find our house ideally situated. Clough’s daughter, Susan, is the creator of the Portmeirion Pottery range which you will find in our dining room. There is a shop selling the pottery in the village as well as in other towns in the area.
